A Feature-Length Drama

Written by Demian

The Story
An intellectual young man works as a counselor at a boy’s summer camp during the 60s, a job seemingly at odds with personal growth. The macho ethic of the camp encourages the oldest campers to undergo a hazing, which results in one of the boys dying.

— Brief Outline —

Zeke heads the arts and craft department, and, while supported by the two counselors who work under him, he is at odds with the rigid mentality of the administration and some of the counselors.

For instance, his home cabin is managed by Steve, a young man who habitually uses his tape deck as a broadcast device, and continually harangues campers with incessant, inane, irritating banter.

Zeke finds an ally in the camp nurse, Jane. She is a frequent witness to the physical negative effects of the camp’s overriding support of the macho ethic.

Among the campers are sweet, thoughtful youth, such as Ken and Tom, and genuine heroes, such as Rabbit.

The oldest boys’ counselor, Tad, has the kid’s undivided attention, due to his highly developed physical skills and bravado. He is not all talk either, as his prowess and fast action saves a boy from being burned. However, he ultimately does not have the camper’s best interests in mind. It is his leading of a hazing of the oldest boys’ group that leads to tragedy.
