Orféo ed Euridice
Music by C.W.Glück. Libretto by R. de’Calzabigi
Directed by Steve Bryant, with Douglas Butler conducting from the piano

Orféo passionately seeks to bring Euridice, his wife, back from the dead. He regains her life only under excruciating circumstances, which lead to greater sorrow and agony. Amore, the child god of love, intervenes by defying death to dispel gloom and loneliness.

Steve Bryant, countertenor

Orféo was mounted as a staged concert, much as Glück first presented it in a 1762 preview. Our cast included Steve Bryant (Orféo), Renée Fladen-Kamm (Euridice), Edmund Kimbell (Amore), and a chorus of twelve. Produced in September 1984 for Old First Concerts in San Francisco.
