Partners Task Force - LLDEF Marriage Resolution

There has been considerable backlash to the law suits for marriage. Laws and state constitutional amendments have been easily written which, not only duplicate the laws covering marriage for opposite-sex couples only, but require that no contracts between same-sex couples be honored. This could impact powers of attorney, child custody, and simple business agreements. [Please see State Legislative Reactions to Suits for Same-Sex Marriage ]

The following resolution was created by Lambda Legal to help explain the need for legal marriage, as well as show how many support this basic civil right.

The Marriage Resolution

Because marriage is a basic human right and an individual personal choice,
Resolved — the State should not interfere with same-gender couples
who choose to marry and share fully and equally
in the rights, responsibilities, and commitment of civil marriage.
